What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes?
If your doctor recommends you start insulin, you might think "If I'm now on insulin, do I have Type 1 diabetes instead of Type 2 diabetes?" Just because you take insulin doesn't mean you have Type 1 diabetes. You're diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when your pancreas produces little or no insulin, and you need multiple insulin injections every day. You're diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes when your pancreas produces little insulin, and your body is resistant to the insulin it makes. Not everyone with Type 2 diabetes needs insulin injections, but because pancreas function gets worse over time, you may need to start insulin at some point.
