How do I travel safely in a car?

When you have diabetes, there are a few things to keep in mind whenever you buckle up. If your blood glucose levels drop while you're driving, you could become dizzy or even faint, causing a car accident. It's important to check your blood glucose level before you get in the car, and every four hours during the trip. If you are low, have some fast-acting glucose, like juice or candy, and re-check your levels after 15 minutes. If your blood glucose is rising, have some longer-lasting carbohydrates and protein to make sure your blood glucose level stays at a safe level.
