Medication
If you have high cholesterol, your doctor could recommend a statin -- which is designed to lower cholesterol. High blood pressure is often lowered with many different medications, such as diuretics, ACE inhibitors, or Beta blockers. Since your body has different ways of raising your blood pressure, it's completely normal that you might need two, three or even four types of medication to control it. If you have Coronary Artery Disease, your doctor might suggest taking a daily dose of aspirin. Acetylsalicylic acid -- or ASA -- helps to prevent blood clots, potentially saving you from a heart attack or stroke. Taking medication doesn't mean it's any less important to eat well and get exercise. The combination of all three is what will keep your heart in the best possible shape.
